Richmond Sluts- 60 Cycles Of Love LP. The Richmond Sluts may hail from San Francisco, but their hearts are far off in New York City, while their heads are stuck in other decades entirely. It would be easy to laud the quartet as the best glam trash band since the New York Dolls, but they’re definitely more than that. They’re a rock ‘n roll band to the bone with a big punk rock heart, but that doesn't begin to encompass all the different facets of this ever puzzling band. The Sluts connect the dots between '60s garage punk and old school '70s riff ‘n roll. Variations on that recipe reverberate across the entire album and the song writing on this record is top notch. On one song they sound like the Dolls if they morphed into a psychedelic band. On another tune they sound like a cross between the Cramps and the Velvet Underground and on another track it sounds like Richard Hell jumped into a time machine back to 1968. All that and a few subtle nods to Eddie & the Hotrods, the Flamin’ Groovies and the Sonics Rendezvous Band as they put their own unique stamp on the genre. In terms of newer bands playing straight up Punk fused Rock ‘n Roll, the Richmond Sluts are definitely right up there with Dr. Boogie. Recommended.
