Dustaphonics- Big Smoke London Town LP. The Dustaphonics third album “Big Smoke London Town” makes it blatantly clear that these London soul-rockers are pretty untouchable. Not only do they have a killer vocalist in Hayley Red but they also have a consummate engine room to drive the songs home. The Dustaphonics attack their songs showing elements of Rhythm and Blues, Surf and the best Soul music of the ‘50s and ‘60s that are all embedded in their collective DNA. The production is clean and the guitar work is equal parts Duane Eddy and Link Wray that suit outright rockers like “Grand Prix” and the tender “Flesh & Blood” to a tee. The songs all sit comfortably on Whaley’s warm bass-lines and at the forefront of the band is Hayley Red’s soothing, sultry voice that really makes these tunes stick. 11 hot, rockin’ soul shakers on “Big Smoke London Town” including ‘Fire Dance’ that gives The Cramps a run for their Cajun swamp money. Fans of the Bell Rays will be all over the Dustaphonics. Import form the UK.
