BLACK MARKET BABY- Coulda Shoulda Woulda CD. Black Market Baby: Boyd Farrell (vocals); Keith Campbell (guitar); Paul Cleary, Mark Dolfi (bass guitar); Tommy Carr (drums). Liner Note Author: John Stabb. Although Washington, D.C., punk will always be synonymous with Dischord Records and the idealist hardcore of bands like Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, and Fugazi, the little-known outfit Black Market Baby helped pave the way for much of DCHC's rise to glory. COULDA... WOULDA... SHOULDA collects 26 key tracks from 1981 to 1986 that contain all of the blazing speed and power of the finest D.C. punk, but with a more traditional punk pedigree than the bands that would ignite Revolution Summer a few years later. Songs like "Strike First," "Back Seat Sally," and the straight edge-less anthem "Drunk and Disorderly" point to the trashy punk style of the Heartbreakers and the gang-chorus approach of British Oi punk as much as they do to the righteous fury of the Bad Brains. COULDA... WOULDA... SHOULDA, is a nice reminder that there was more to D.C. punk than hearts on sleeves and Xs on hands!l!!
