Debris’ - Play My Heart 7”. Debris’ were a proto-punk band from Chickasha, OK formed in mid 1975 by Charles Ivey, Oliver "Rectomo" Powers and drummer Johnny Gregg. The band played only a hand full of shows in their short existence and became somewhat of legend after disbanding because their phenomenal debut LP became so hard to find over the years. Debris’ emerged from Chickasha, a very unlikely spot for an experimental proto punk band to form in the mid 70’s. Facing an uphill battle as a band including redneck hostility and a crowd that wasn’t fully ready to embrace their heavy proto punk sounds, Debris' forged a small legacy and cult following with its D.I.Y. ethics and brut heavy sounds. Charles Ivey and Oliver Powers played in bands like The Cocktails along with Victoria Vein and the Thunderpunks for several years before the summer of 1975, when they approached drummer Johnny Gregg to form Debris’. By September 1975 Debris’ had their first live gig and they were on their way. Influenced by the Velvet Underground, the Stooges, Captain Beefheart, and English glam rock, their sound and chaotic live performances did not endear them to their Oklahoma City-area audiences until long after their demise. This is a 3 song 7” including 3 very rare Debris’ songs. If you’ve heard the mythology surrounding the band and were never able to track down their incredibly hard to find debut LP, this is a good place to start. THESE ARE ON THE LIMITED YELLOW WAX!
