Christian Death- Sticks A Finger Down Its Throat: Rare, Live & Unreleased CD. The founding fathers of American goth rock, Christian Death took a relentlessly confrontational stand against organized religion and conventional morality, with an appetite for provocation that made Marilyn Manson look like Stryper. Regardless of who was leading or performing in the group, Christian Death set themselves up to shock, both in their cover art and their lyrics, which wallowed in blasphemy, morbidity, drug use, and sexual perversity. Their self-consciously controversial tactics set them apart from the British Goth scene, having more to do with L.A. punk and heavy metal, and thus the band dubbed their sound "Death Rock" instead. This is a good compilation of exceptionally rare live and unreleased songs from Christian Death. Rozz Williams lyrics are gorgeous surrealistic poetry, Rikk Agnews guitar work is brilliant and the rest of the band, especially Gitane, is wonderful. A true work of art here. The sound quality is not the best, but some of their best work is on this compilation that is getting harder and harder to find these day. Many of the songs here are alternate versions of songs off of ‘Only Theater Of Pain’ and ‘Catastrophe Ballet’ and there are other songs that you won’t find anywhere else like “Lullabye” , “Introduction To Film” , “Working On Beyond” , “Into The Light” , “Spectre (Love is Dead)” , “Halos” , and “German Beer Hall Song” (well this song appears on the ‘Death Club’ compilation but the name is changed to “This Mirage”). For those not familiar with Christian Death, this is a good place to start. 1 per order on these.
