Blowtops- Black Static LP. The Blowtops’ second full-length album cranks their Buffalo-born scuzz-rock to new heights of raw, unhinged intensity. This is heavy, noisy, gloriously chaotic rock ‘n’ roll, dripping with a darker, angrier edge than anything they’ve unleashed before. Fans often draw parallels to The Cramps, largely due to Creepy Dave’s Lux-inspired vocals and wild stage antics, not to mention the band’s knack for weaving dark horror themes into their lyrics. While the comparison holds in spirit, musically, The Blowtops lean closer to the creepy, gritty swagger of The Scientists at their most unpolished and this album stacks up as one of their best.
