Virus- Illuminati 7”.  Virus were a UK anarcho-punk band back in the ‘80s, whose height of achievement was being featured on the Mortarhate Records comp “We Won’t Be Your Fucking Poor” and then disappearing. “Illuminati” begins with a picked guitar intro before building into a very catchy tune. The guitar work is at times heavy and dark and reminds me a little of Zygote or later period Amebix before devolving into straight up punk. There are also proper bass lines in the song too, that brings to mind the faster Subhumans songs, and I think that’s where their catchiness comes from. The second track “Vanity” sounds like it would fit in nicely on the 2nd Icons of Filth album “Nostredamnedus” – particularly in the guitar sound and ferocious delivery of the tune. If you’re into any of the aforementioned bands or The Mob or early Killing Joke, you’ll dig this. This is the first vinyl release on Subversive Haircuts, which was the label Virus used to release tapes on 30 years ago.
