TV Freaks- Bad Luck Charms LP ~EX ROCKET REDUCERS!
TV Freaks- Bad Luck Charms LP. With a fistful of singles and two albums to hide behind, Canada's TV Freaks spew an angry record full of snottiness and aggression on their third full length. Ex members of Rocket Reducers and Burning Love combine forces here to lay down an incredible album that works from a familiar Bloodstains-homage sound, but they go farther than that. ‘Bad Luck Charms’ is a solid album that never feels overly same-y or generic, an all-too-common pitfall of bands playing this sorta thing. They run through neurotic slow-punk rippers (the menacing “Forget You” that opens the b-side in particular is amazing), classic garage punk scorchers, a few hardcore blasts with variations on these styles throughout. They play it with spite filled energy and mix up the tempos across the album all while sounding like the same band playing on the same record. Vocalist David O’Connor often reminds me of the great Tony Erba on here, particularly on the more manic numbers. And having formed in 2011, the band has the difficult task of writing what’s gotta be at least their fourth dozen batch of new songs and they don’t overdo themselves by complicating their music or moving away from the basic punk aesthetics while keeping the songs fresh and interesting. The record fires from all angles as it was recorded by Dallas Good of the Sadies/Career Suicide, mixed by Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet's Don Pyle and mastered by Mikey Young of Total Control. Import from Canada.

Los Angeles' the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs spew a raw, undistilled slab of sweet ‘n nasty sonic tonic on their 7th studio album 'One More Drink'. The Cheetahs reignite the raw Detroit sounds of the the Stooges and fellow down under countrymen Radio Birdman blasting through 11 red-hot tracks of over-amplified nihilism showing even further dexterity in the world of thick riffs and song writing versatility. ‘One More Drink’ sounds like the good kind of mid 70’s pre-punk Riff 'n Roll record hopped-up on a heavy dose of classic 80's, white lightnin’ radio Rock. They mix an absolutely perfect Rock 'n Roll cocktail here...
