Swimsuit- S/T LP. Return-to-Michigan action from Fred Thomas (Saturday Looks Good To Me, City Center), teaming up with three women who handle most of the music here. Swimsuit’s music lies in the roots of girl group sounds, and fumbling K Records-style twee bash. When these folks decide to yelp and holler, like at the start of side two on “Rat Pack” (a very charming and simple song with a great deal of energy, and the best thing here), things really look up. Several parallels in sound and style exist to latter-day wonders like Grass Widow or Brute Heart. Swimsuit have made an amazing summer record here with bouncy, beached-out vibes and post-punk laced pop song writing with infectious vocal harmonies and a few hazy dubbed out instrumentals.
