Sonic Avenues- Television Youth LP. Sonic Avenues charge through their sophomore full-length so relentlessly that their energy is contagious. Coming off their well-received S/T debut, this Montreal four-piece are clearly amped-up and aren't wasting a second of it. ‘Television Youth’ doesn't stray too far from previous work, in that it's largely rapid-fire punk rock influenced by late '70s UK punk touchstones. But the band made a point this time of going both poppier and punkier, resulting in more hooks, distortion and a clearer distinction between the two. And these subtle new dynamics work well for Sonic Avenues. The full-throttle chords on "Static Attraction" nearly conceal the bright organs, and "Waste Away Alone" layers thick harmonies over driving down strokes with both songs featuring top notch use of gang vocals. Ten stellar tracks here for fans of the Buzzcocks, the Boys, the Damned and the Undertones. Cool looking artwork by Antipsesto Graphics and the LP also includes a two sided printed insert.
